New DFG-grant for Dr. Arne Hinrichs

Dr. Arne Hinrichs receives DFG grant for dissecting the mechanisms of transient juvenile hyperglycemia in a pig model for Laron syndrome (growth hormone receptor knockout; GHR-KO). Specifically, the following hypotheses will be tested: i) Insulin sensitivity is increased in juvenile GHR KO pigs, but normalizes when they get adult; ii) Insulin supply vanishes in older GHR-KO pigs; iii) Hepatic glucose production is reduced in juvenile Laron pigs, but increases towards normal levels in young adults; and iv) Changes in gluconeogenesis and/or insulin sensitivity are induced by puberty.
