A Multimodal Cross-Species Comparison of Pancreas Development
22.10.2025
Researchers including Elisabeth Kemter have created the first comprehensive single-cell atlas of pancreas development in pigs and compared it with human and mouse development. The study shows that pig pancreas development more closely resembles human development than that of mice, including developmental timing, gene regulation, and the formation of hormone-producing cells. These findings establish pigs as a valuable model for studying human pancreas development and could help advance research into diabetes and regenerative therapies.
