Partial Recovery of Muscle Strength in a Pig Model of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
01.10.2025
Michaela Blasi, Hristiyan Hristov and an interdisciplinary research team used a pig model of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) to quantitatively assess how restoring dystrophin expression affects muscle function. Genetic reframing that models the milder Becker muscular dystrophy improved some aspects of muscle performance but did not fully restore muscle strength to healthy levels. The findings demonstrate the value of measuring muscle force in DMD pigs as a sensitive approach for evaluating potential therapies and their functional benefits.
