Pig Model Reveals Mechanisms of Juvenile Hypoglycaemia in Laron Syndrome
20.10.2025
A team of researchers led by Arne Hinrichs used a pig model of Laron syndrome, a rare condition caused by growth hormone insensitivity, to investigate why affected children can experience low blood sugar. The study found that juvenile hypoglycemia is linked to increased insulin sensitivity, reduced glucose production, and impaired fat breakdown. As the animals matured, metabolic adaptations—including increased fat mass and reduced insulin sensitivity—helped restore normal blood glucose levels. These findings provide new insights into age-dependent metabolic changes in growth hormone insensitivity.
